How does the Columns Society benefit MU?
The Columns Society’s philanthropic support advances the university’s missions of teaching, research, service, and economic development while preserving the traditions that connect us as MU alumni and friends.
What is my role as a member of the Columns Society?
Your membership in the Columns Society attests to the pride and passion you feel for the university. We ask that you continue to contribute to the culture of giving at MU by maintaining an active and engaged membership and spreading the word about the Columns Society — wear your lapel pin proudly!
How do I become a member of the Columns Society?
Any individual or couple giving $2,500 or more to MU in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) automatically is eligible for membership. Alumni and friends 35 and under, as well as MU employees, are eligible with annual gifts of $1,500 or more.
What are the benefits of Columns Society membership?
Membership benefits include:
- Invitations to special campus events
- Columns Society decal and lapel pin
- Increased engagement with MU
- Regular campus updates
Can I choose where my money is spent?
Yes. You can choose to make your gift unrestricted or designate it for a specific purpose. If your gift supports a school, college, or program that has its own giving society, you may be offered membership in that organization as well.
What types of gifts count toward membership?
The following gifts count toward membership:
- Cash or appreciated stock
- Gifts made via check, payroll deduction, or credit card
- Pledge payments
- Matching gifts
