The University of Missouri School of Medicine has been improving health, education and research in Missouri and beyond for more than 165 years. MU physicians treat patients from every county in the state, and more Missouri physicians received their medical degrees from MU than from any other university.

The School of Medicine’s more than 650 faculty physicians and scientists educate approximately 1,100 medical students, residents, fellows and graduate students seeking advanced degrees. Their research is focused on lifesaving discoveries that address the most prevalent health problems.

Current priorities for the School of Medicine include:

  • Endowed Scholarships and Faculty Positions: Both student scholarships and faculty positions enable MU to attract top talent, advancing our interconnected missions of education, research and care.
  • Heart and Vascular Institute: As one of the few medical schools in the country featuring comprehensive research and clinical capabilities, we are poised to fortify our strengths in cardiac and vascular surgery.
  • Translational Precision Medicine Complex: By facilitating collaboration with the Colleges of Engineering and Veterinary Medicine, this facility will enhance our interdisciplinary research in areas such as aging, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
  • Signature Centers and Institutes: Building on our success with the Virology and Molecular Therapy Institute and the Thompson Lab for Regenerative Orthopaedics, we have several additional centers and institutes on the horizon in areas such as neurodegenerative disease and brain imaging, diabetes, radiopharmaceuticals and ophthalmology.

Although health care is complex, the School of Medicine’s vision is simple: to be a transformational leader in improving health. Now more than ever, your support will make the difference. Thank you for giving to the MU School of Medicine.

Nearly 92 percent of MU medical students receive financial aid to support their education. The average MU medical education debt upon graduation is $163,121. Investing in these students through scholarship endowments allows them to focus on the task of becoming competent, compassionate physicians without the added burden of rising debt.

The University of Missouri is developing an outstanding biomedical, clinical and translational research program. We are particularly focused on translating exceptional life science discoveries into community-based products, services and practices for our state and nation. Few universities share MU’s potential for saving lives through research. Enterprises like the Heart and Vascular Institute as well as the Translational Precision Medicine Complex will help grow our efforts.
